Η Λειψία (γερμ. Leipzig ) (σλάβικα: Lipsk) είναι η μεγαλύτερη πόλη του ομόσπονδου κράτους της Σαξωνία|Σαξωνίας στην Γερμανία. Το όνομα προέρχεται από την σλάβικη λέξη Lipsk (οικισμός με φλαμουριές). Ο πληθυσμός της Λειψίας που ήταν 750.000 πριν τον Β' Παγκόσμιος Πόλεμος|Β' Παγκόσμιο Πόλεμο, σήμερα έχει ελαττωθεί στις 500.000 (το 2002).
Από τους παλαιούς καιρού η Λειψία είχε μια μεγάλη ελληνική κοινότητα. Έπαιξε καθοριστικό ρόλο στη διάδοση της ελληνικής γλώσσας και λογοτεχνίας ως πανεπιστημιούπολη και πόλη του βιβλίου. Μετά τον ελληνικό εμφύλιο πολλοί πολιτικοί πρόσφυγες βρήκαν στη Λειψία τη δεύτερή τους πατρίδα. Από το 1990 η δράση των Ελλήνων στην πόλη έγινε ακόμη πιο πολυσχιδής και επεκτάθηκε κυρίως στους τομείς του εμπορίου και της μαζικής εστίασης.
Το 2006 φιλοξένησε η Λειψία αγώνες του Παγκόσμιο Κύπελλο Ποδοσφαίρου 2006|Παγκοσμίου Κυπέλλου Ποδοσφαίρου στο Τσεντράλσταντιον (Zentralstadion).
Εκπαίδευση
Το πανεπιστήμιο της Λειψίας (έτος ιδρύσεως: 1409), είναι ένα από τα παλαιότερα πανεπιστήμια της Ευρώπης. Ο νομπελίστας Βέρνερ Χάιζενμπεργκ εργάστηκε εδώ ως καθηγητής φυσικής (από το 1927 ως το 1942), όπως και οι επίσης νομπελίστες Γκούσταβ Χερτζ (Gustav Ludwig Hertz - φυσική), Βίλελμ Όστβαλντ (Wilhelm Ostwald - χημεία) και Τέοντορ Μόμσεν (Theodor Mommsen - βραβείο Νόμπελ στη λογοτεχνία). Αλλοι διάσημοι καθηγητές του πανεπιστήμιου ήταν ο μεταλλειολόγος Georg Agricola, ο συγγραφέας Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, ο φιλόσοφος Ερνστ Μπλοχ Ernst Bloch, ο εκκεντρικός ιδρυτής της ψυχοφυσικής Gustav Theodor Fechner, και ο ψυχολόγος Wilhelm Wundt. Γνωστοί φοιτητές ήταν οι συγγραφείς Γιόχαν Βόλφγκανγκ Γκαίτε και Erich Kästner, οι φιλόσοφοι Γκότφριντ Λάιμπνιτς (Gottfried Leibniz) και Φρειδερίκος Νίτσε, ο πολιτικός Καρλ Λίμπκνεχτ, καθώς επίσης και ο συνθέτης Ρίχαρντ Βάγκνερ.
